About the country
Antigua and Barbuda are located in the northern Caribbean. Popular with sailors, Antigua is a pleasant island to stay on. We settled in English Harbour, in the south of the island, where a lovely marina and all amenities, nice hikes and two dive clubs are all within walking distance. A car is still needed to explore the rest of the island though.
The diving is beautiful : thanks to the small number of clubs and divers, the seabed is well preserved and the wildlife curious. The bottoms are sandy and the reefs aren’t very deep. Sharks, rays, cuttlefish, crabs and lobsters are part of everyday diving in the south of Antigua. Diving here stays fairly under the radar and there aren’t many dive sites, but the ones on the Atlantic point are beautiful and offer a very different topography.

Dive Carib : club run by Leigh with Louis, two very welcoming Brits. They have two boats : a large zodiac and a second boat only used in peak season. The sites are 15 to 25 min from the club. We went out for two dives in the morning, they’re committed to doing different dives every time and making sure everyone’s happy.

Energie offers well-equipped, luxurious apartments in English Harbour, with a stunning view over the bay. A nice air-conditioned gym also adds to the appeal of the place.

There are several archaeological sites to visit on the island, old forts and the sugar mills of Betty’s Hope, Nelson’s Dockyard and Fort Berkeley.
Climb up Fort Barrington to admire the view over the mangroves and the sea.
Watch pelicans, egrets, frigatebirds and oystercatchers at McKinnon’s Salt Pond, though the surroundings are unfortunately polluted with litter.
There are several nice hikes around Falmouth for beautiful viewpoints, including the loop from Galleon Beach to Shirley Heights, the carpenter rock trail, which offers magnificent views over the cliffs and Falmouth Harbour bay.
The walk via Turtle Bay to Rendez-vous beach also offers beautiful views of the bay. Finally, the short walk to Monk Hill is worth it, with an almost 360-degree view.
